Flow cytometry, CBC and ELISA Flashcards
What is flow cytometry
Measurement of cells charcteristics in a liquid suspension
What is cytometry?
The measurement of cell characteristics such as shape, morphology, size , intracellular complexity( which effects the light going through)
What are the scatters in flow cytometry and what do they measure?
- The size of the cells is measured by the forward scatter
-For the granularity (the density) the side scatter is measured because dense cells deflect the laser to the side
When forward and side scatters are combined what is the order of the cells in the image?
- Big part Is the granulocytes made from neutrophils
- Middle is monocytes- less density
- Last at the bottom - lymphocytes no granularity with dead cells hat give signal
What does CD8 and CD4 on flow cytometry ?
CD8 signal is a smear
CD4 signal is compact
What is CBC used for ?
-Measuring the RBC and WBCs
- Ideal for babies as not too much blood is needed
-Can be used for Anaemia (RBC count)
-Infection(lymphocytes Covid 19)
-Inflammation (allergy eosinophils)
-Leukaemia
-Bleeding (platelets)
