Q

What are the scatters in flow cytometry and what do they measure?

A
  • The size of the cells is measured by the forward scatter

-For the granularity (the density) the side scatter is measured because dense cells deflect the laser to the side

Q

When forward and side scatters are combined what is the order of the cells in the image?

A
  • Big part Is the granulocytes made from neutrophils
  • Middle is monocytes- less density
  • Last at the bottom - lymphocytes no granularity with dead cells hat give signal

Q

What is CBC used for ?

A

-Measuring the RBC and WBCs

  • Ideal for babies as not too much blood is needed

-Can be used for Anaemia (RBC count)
-Infection(lymphocytes Covid 19)
-Inflammation (allergy eosinophils)
-Leukaemia
-Bleeding (platelets)
