- 80% of Bangladesh is a flood plain
- Deforestation in Himalayas + Nepal increased run-off

Effects of flood
A
- Over 760 dead
- Water covered half the country
- The capital (Dhaka) had 35cm of rain
- Crops were washed away
- 35 millon homeless

Short term responses of flood
A
- Little immediate help until Unicef warned (in October) that over a million children would die or be at risk of illness within 6 weeks without rapid aid.
- World Food Programme → daily distribution of biscuits and hygiene survival kit

Long term responses of flood
A
- Flood action Plan → trying to give protection from disastrous floods but still keep the benefit of normal floods
