When are you considered established on course or on the approach?
Once within half full scale deflection.
When should you stay clear of the ILS Critical Area?
When weather conditions are below 800’-2sm
Holding Pattern Speeds
6000'-below = 200kts 6001'-14000' = 230kts 14001'-above = 265kts
When should you start slowing for a holding pattern?
3 minutes from the fix
How to determine the holding pattern entry?
Place the holding fix in the center of your HSI
Draw the radial to hold on pointing in to fix
Determine if standard (Right) turns or non standard
Determine the entry type
What is needed to descend below DH or MDA?
The aircraft must continuous be in a position from which a descent to a landing can be made at a normal rate of descent using normal maneuvers.
Must have the prescribed visibility for the type of approach.
Must have ONE of the following The approach light system which allows you to descend to 100' above TDZE Red terminating bars Red side row bars Threshold Threshold markings Threshold lights REIL's VASI/PAPI's TDZ or TDZL Runway or runway markings Runway lights
RVR to Visibility
1/4sm = 1600' 1/2sm = 2400' 3/4sm = 4000' 1sm = 5000'
When should a missed approach be initiated?
Arrival at the DH or MDA without the prescribed items insight.
Anytime when the you lose sight of the runway
If you lose it on a circling approach turn toward the runway to execute a missed approach.
