Flight Planning Rules Flashcards
a take-off alternate must be selected and specified in the flight plan if …
the weather conditions at the aerodrome of departure are at or below the applicable aerodrome operating landing minima or it would not be possible to return to the aerodrome of departure for other reasons
a take-off alternate
Must be located within the following distance from the departure aerodrome:
Twin engine without ETOPS –
Twin engine with ETOPS –
Three or more engines –
1 hour, at one engine inop cruise speed
the approved ETOPS diversion time up to 2 hours, at one engine inop cruise speed
2 hours, at one engine inop cruise speed
Operator must select at least one destination alternate for each IFR flight unless:
Flight time is less than … hours, … runways are available at destination and the met conditions are such that +/- … hour of ETA the ceiling will be at least …ft or circling height +…ft, whichever is greater, and visibility will be at least …km; or
The destination is isolated and no adequate alternate exists. In this case the weather at destination must be at least that required for an alternate. Fuel total must be TRIP + CONTINGENCY + … (which includes final reserve)
6, 2, 1. 2000, 500, 5
2 HOURS AT CRUISE
when must two destination alternates be selected?
when weather reports or forecasts for destination indicate that +/- 1 hour of ETA the weather conditions will be below the applicable planning minima or when no met info is available
what approach systems available for CAT I?
ILS, MLS, GBAS Landing, precision approach radar or SBAS
CAT I DH =
CAT I RVR =
not lower than 200 ft
not less than 550m
CAT II DH =
CAT II RVR =
below 200ft but not lower than 100ft
not less than 300m
CAT IIIA DH =
CAT IIIA RVR =
lower than 100ft
not less than 200m
CAT IIIB DH =
CAT IIIB RVR =
lower than 100ft or no DH
less than 200m but not less than 75m
Non-precision approach MDH (or DH when flying a continuous descent final approach) and RVR =
not lower than 250ft
not less than 750m
destination aerodrome planning minima is effectively the approach operating minima
the ceiling must be at or above DH or MDH as applicable for the period of ETA +/-… hour
1
planning minima for alternate aerodromes
Generally higher cloud bases and visibilities are required than the minima
Cloud ceiling only needs to be taken into account when considering …
NPAs or circling approaches
Planning minima for destination alternate, isolated destination aerodrome, Fuel ERA and ERA aerodrome
CAT II and III =
CAT I RVR
Planning minima for destination alternate, isolated destination aerodrome, Fuel ERA and ERA aerodrome
CAT I =
(RVR and ceiling)
NPA RVR/VIS
Ceiling at or above MDH
Planning minima for destination alternate, isolated destination aerodrome, Fuel ERA and ERA aerodrome
NPA =
(RVR & CEILING)
NPA RVR/VIS + 1000M
ceiling at or above MDH + 200ft
