Flight Planning Flashcards
What is the 5 approved weather sources for planning?
ARINC FSS Jeppesen Foreflight Honeywell GDC
What are the 8 weather conditions that XOJET will not operate?
Surface winds >c50 knots Tailwinds > 10 knots X/W greater that what is listed in the FSM Severe turbulence Severe icing Freezing rain or drizzle Breaking action poor or nil, (RCAM/FICON <2) When deemed unsafe.
What is the FAA standard take visibility for two-engine aircraft?
5000 RVR or 1 SM or
The lowest straight in approach visibility for that runway
What is the lowest RVR for T/O?
500/500/500 with HIRL/CL (all RVR are controlling, one can be INOP, far end is NOT controlling.
What is a diverse airport?
No published SID, ODP. Allows for a departure in any direction to the minimum IFR altitude
What is the order of preference for DPs
SID
RVs
ODP
Diverse Airport, make most prudent turn on course.
What are the three types of alternates?
Destination
Takeoff (Departure)
En Route (for extended range operations, class II)
When are we required to have an alternate?
ALWAYS!
Ceiling
1 hour before one hour after…(conditions are lower than)
+1500 above lowestr circling approach
+1500 above the lowest published straight in minimum -OR-
2000 feet above the airport elevation (whichever is higher)
Visibility
+3 miles
or 2 miles more than the lowest applicable vis mins, whichever is greater for the IAP to be used at destination airport
When is an enroute alternate required?
When an aircraft is more than 1 hour from a diversion point.
The 2 Navid rule requires separate pavement
Reserve fuel at an enroute alternate is reduced to 30 mins.
What are the fuel reserve “minimum fuel” and “7700” for the C750, CL350?
1700/1200
What is the standard fuel burn for taxi on every flight?
200 lbs
What defines tankering fuel?
When you land at an airport with +2000 ibs of the required fuel for the flight.
When your weight at destination does NOT allow for wet opps.
What conditions would make tankering N/A?
In and out of mountainous terrain
In and out wet or contaminated runways
Short-field runways (does not allow for wet opps)
DAAP
Unable to achieve wet/low-visibility landing perf.
Where can you find the SAG airports?
Chapter 11 of the GOM
What is needed for a Captain to land at SAG airport?
Previous landing within 12 months or
SAG Self-review and/or
ODO brief and/or
Recurrent simulator training
What defines a mountainous airport?
Terrain rises 3000’ or more within 10NM
What constitutes a dry runway?
Ground personal report dry
No precipitation 4 hours prior to 1 hour after ETA
(planning purposes)
What constitutes a wet runway?
Not dry and not contaminated
+25% is wet by any visible dampness/water < 1/8 inch
What constitutes a contaminated runway?
Heavy Precip +/- 1 hour from ETA
Freezing rain of any intensity
Snow, Snow grains, ice pellets or hail greater than light with surface temps below -2C
25% coverage of standing water
Any ice accumulation
Any coverage in the first half of the runway
What is the minimum amount of experience for a Captain and an FO for DAAP operations?
Captain - 2,000 hours total time
100 hours PIC in type
First Officer 1000 hour total time
1000 hours PIC in type
PIC takes landing if FO doesn’t meet the time
How do we determine if an airport is or is not “eligible” to be an alternate airport?
On the 10-9A page
