Flight Operations and Technique Flashcards
What are AICs?
AIC stands for Aeronautical Information Circular. They provide information that carries administrative and operational importance. In a way it is similar to a publication of NOTAMs, though the AIC contains more details and focuses more on Admin concerns rather that operational concerns.
When must you file a flight plan?
- Going into a class A
- In IMC and or night flight
- “Within certain special rules airspace.
- Within Upper Information Regions (UIRs) - above FL245
- Depending on the distance to dest. and if your MTOM exceeds 5700kg
- In many parts of the world when you cross a Flight Information Region (FIR)
- If you intend on using traffic advisory service route (ADR)
What is the minimum-height/Altitude rule?
In order to comply with IFR, an aircraft must fly 1000 ft above the highest obstacle within 5NM of the obstacle. Unless:
1. When the aircraft is landing
2. When there is a NOTAM saying otherwise
3. When authorized by the competent authority
4. When above 3000 ft MSL and remaining out of the clouds and in view of the surface.
note: the 1000ft becomes 2000ft in mountainous areas.
