Q

ASI

A

Airspeed Indicator or Airspeed Gauge
ASI measures the pressure differential between static pressure from the static port and total pressure from the pitot tube.
The recommendation by ICAO is km/h, but knots (kn) is the most used unit. Also MPH & meters per second (m/s) are used.

Q

Altimeter

A

“Altitude Meter”
Instrument used to measure the altitude of an object above a fixed level. Measurement of altitude is called altimetry. The altimeter has 3 pointers, 100’, 1000’, & 10000’.
*must be inspected every 24 months.

Q

Pilot-static system

A

A system of pressure-sensitive instruments-

  • used to determine an aircraft’s: airspeed, Mach number, altitude, and altitude trend.
  • generally consists of: a pilot tube, a static port, and the pilot static instruments (altimeter, vertical speed indicator, airspeed indicator).
  • must be inspected ever 24 calendar months
