Flight Instruments Flashcards
ASI
Airspeed Indicator or Airspeed Gauge
ASI measures the pressure differential between static pressure from the static port and total pressure from the pitot tube.
The recommendation by ICAO is km/h, but knots (kn) is the most used unit. Also MPH & meters per second (m/s) are used.
Altimeter
“Altitude Meter”
Instrument used to measure the altitude of an object above a fixed level. Measurement of altitude is called altimetry. The altimeter has 3 pointers, 100’, 1000’, & 10000’.
*must be inspected every 24 months.
Transponder
Device for receiving radio signal and automatically transmitting a different signal.
*must be inspected every 24 calendar months.
Pilot-static system
A system of pressure-sensitive instruments-
- used to determine an aircraft’s: airspeed, Mach number, altitude, and altitude trend.
- generally consists of: a pilot tube, a static port, and the pilot static instruments (altimeter, vertical speed indicator, airspeed indicator).
- must be inspected ever 24 calendar months
Pilot-static Instruments
Altimeter, Vertical Speed Indicator, Airspeed Indicator.
ELT
Emergency Locator Transmitter
Helps rescuers find aircraft & people in distress following an aircraft impact with terrain.
