Flight Instruments 1 Flashcards
1
Q
Altimeter Position Error
A
Static port senses some dynamic pressure, usually from sideslips
2
Q
Altimeter Scale Error
A
Caused by aneroid capsules not assuming precise size for a particular pressure difference
3
Q
Altimeter Mechanical Error
A
Misalignment or slippage in gears and linkages
4
Q
Altimeter Density Error
A
- Variations in atmospheric pressures and temperatures
- High to low, look out below
- Low to high, clear blue sky
5
Q
Altimeter Hysteresis Error
A
A lag in indications due to elastic properties of the materials used to construct aneroids
6
Q
Altimeter Reversal Error
A
Rapid or abrupt altitude changes, only momentary
7
Q
Precession
A
- When a force is applied to a gyro, the force causes the gyro to move in a different direction
- Gyro acts as if the force has been applied 90 degrees in the direction of rotation to where it was actually applied
8
Q
Attitude Indicator
A
- Gyro mounted horizontally and spins about a vertical axis
- Functions on principle of rigidity in space
- Max bank and pitch 85 degrees
9
Q
Heading Indicator
A
- Gyro mounted vertically and spins about a horizontal axis
- Functions on principle of rigidity in space
- Subject to mechanical and apparent precession
10
Q
Turn Coordinator
A
- Gyro mounted vertically and spins about a horizontal axis
- Gyro canted at a 35º angle
- Functions on principle of gyroscopic precession
