Why is it important to secure items before flight?
They can become dislodged or airborn
Cause injury or damage
Become inaccessible
Stuck in flight controls (rudder pedals)
Passenger Briefing & Comfort Kit
Use a printed/laminated checklist from the FAA.
Add notes:
- propeller safety.
- remain clear of controls (rudder pedals).
- appropriate clothing
- Include briefing card (pictures) and/or custom video
- air sickness bag / pee bag / water / no mess snacks / wipes / entertainments
Departure Briefing (ASEL)
Print/laminated handout.
Runway __ doing a __ Takeoff and a __ Departure (routing and altitude) Rotation speed __ kts, Abort point __ (Vr by 50%) Climb out at __ kts, Performance __ (distances and climb) Usable Length __ Runway Condition __ Wind Direction & Speed __
Any PROBLEM/EMERGENCY on Takeoff Roll
- Abort: Pwr-Idle & Brake, Flaps-Retract.
- Securing Engine: Mixture & Fuel-Off, Ignition & Master-Off.
ENGINE FAILURE below __ MSL (point to altimeter)
- Lower the Nose, Do Not Stall, Land generally ahead.
- Secure engine: Mixture & Fuel-Off, Flaps, Master & Ignition-Off, Doors-unlatch.
ENGINE FAILURE above __ MSL
Lower the Nose, Do Not Stall, Establish best Glide Speed __ Knots, Land either Ahead OR Turn Toward the Airport. Choose Best Place Reachable on or off the airport. DO NOT Stretch Glide.
