Flight Controls Flashcards
Rudder Modes of Operation
Powered - normal mode powered by right hydraulic system
Manual - Pedals move control tab
Rudder Limiter
Primary - Mechanical system operated by RAM air, progressively restricts rudder travel
Secondary - controlled by Flight Control Computer, restricted and unrestricted. (hydraulic powered)
Ailerons
Aerodynamically positioned by control tabs
Linked by torque tube w/ override system
Aileron bus cable links L and R aileron
Elevators
Controlled by control tabs mechanically connected to control column.
Gear tab assists the positioning of elevator
Standby elevator cable loop system
activates to provide control if right cable severed due to uncontained engine failure
Elevator Hydraulic boost cylinders
2 cylinders, powered by left hyd system, w/ accumulator backup, provide nose down in event of deep stall
Spoilers function
1) Roll Augmentation (control wheel >5`)
2) Inflight Speed Brakes
3) Decrease lift/ increase Drag during Rejected Takeoff and landing roll
Spoiler
Controlled by SECU (Spoiler Electronic Control Unit)
Hydraulically powered
Left hyd - inboard spoilers
Right hyd - outboard spoilers
Flaps
Hydraulically powered
Left hyd system - outboard actuator
Right hyd - inboard actuator
Slats
5 individual slat sections each wing
positioned by cables powered by Hyd Pwrd Drums
one drum Right hyd, other Left hyd system -either can operate the slats
Spoiler auto deploy
Rejected Take Off on reverse thrust above 80kts then idle Landing main wheel spin up Ground Shift
Config Take Off Warning
At Throttle Advancement:
1) Stabilizer not in Take off range
2) Rudder Trim out of T/O range
3) Slats not extended
4) Flaps
5) Brakes
6) Spoilers not armed
