Q

How are the CA and FO flight controls attached?

A

The yokes are connected through jam override mechanisms that can be broken by sufficient force. Some control effectiveness will be lost. The rudders are rigidly connected.

Q

Describe the three stabilizer control modes.

A

Electric - Control Yoke, two motors, full rate, 1.5 unit range.
Alternate - switches on the control stand; greater range.
Automatic - Autopilot controlled, one motor, half rate.

6
Q

Will Stabilizer Trim change autopilot actuation?

A
  • Electric trim will disengage one autopilot, but is inhibited with more than one autopilot engaged.
  • Alternate trim “neutralizes” any other conflicting input, and does not cause disengagement.

Q

How can you stop trim movement?

A

Q

STAB TRIM

A
  • 1/2 rate movement, for whatever reason (1 or 2 motors offline).
  • FAULT
  • If unique to ELEC Trim, full rate still possible with ALT.

Q

Why do we use the Center Autopilot?

A
  • The the Center Autopilot can use both the L and R Trim Motors.
  • 762s FCCs can only control the FD or the AutoPilot, but not both. Normal ops: L & R FCCs control FDs, and and C FCC controls Autopilot.

Q

What is the PES?

A
  • Pitch Enhancement System.
  • Hydraulic motor (PTU) powered by the R System to power trapped fluid in the L System.
  • Automatic if both L and C HYD Systems fail.
  • Only powers Electric Trim on the yoke at 1/4 Rate.

13
Q

How is Roll Controlled?

A
  • Yokes connected so that significant pressure will disconnect the two, for proportional displacement of ailerons/spoilers, and to require more force with more displacement.
  • Aileron trim controlled with dual aft aisle stand switches using HYD power from any one of the three systems.

14
Q

Describe the aileron lockout system.

A
  • Prevents over control at high altitudes and high speeds by inhibiting outboard ailerons.
  • AIL LOCK means actuator disagrees with commanded position. At high altitudes and airspeeds, it may mean that one or both ailerons failed to lock, and at low altitudes and speeds, that one or both failed to unlock.

15
Q

How many Yaw Dampers are there?

A

Two. They operate through the rudder control system, with information from the IRUs. They help with turn coordination, and they protect against uncommanded yaw forces.

16
Q

How is rudder movement controlled?

A

The Rudder Ratio Changer modifies displacement, in relation to pedal inputs, based on ADC inputs (airspeed - 160). It uses an actuator powered by the Left HYD System.

17
Q

What happens with a RUDDER RATIO light?

A
  • Rudder Ratio System FAIL; L Actuator automatically disconnected; avoid large inputs above 160.
  • L Actuator FAIL; Reduced authority at low airspeeds; 15 Knots X-Wind Limit, and No AutoLand.
18
Q

What system powers the FLAPS?

A

Center HYD.

19
Q

How are the Spoilers used?

A
  • Symmetrically, on the Ground and in the Air, to Reduce Lift and Increase Drag
  • Asymmetrically, for increased roll authority.
20
Q

Describe Speedbrake Operation.

A

ARMED - When gear not tilted, & Thrust Levers Idle - Spoilers all up.
TR - On the ground, positioning either TR in the detent will extend the Spoilers, whether armed, or not.
Speed Brakes - lever can be placed in any position to partially extend spoilers, as needed.

21
Q

SPEEDBRAKES

A

When extended below 800’ RA

22
Q

AUTO SPDBRK

A
  • FAULT
  • Lever to Down, because you don’t know when they will/won’t extend.
  • You can still use manually.
23
Q

SPOILERS

A
  • one or more spoiler pairs are inoperative.
24
Q

Flap and Slat Operation

A
  • Increase lift/drag for TO/LNDG
  • Indicated by two pointers, normally L covers R.
  • Flaps 1 - Only the LE Slats Move.
  • TO - (Flaps 1) / Flaps 5, 15, and 20
  • LNDG - Flaps 20 (Abnormal), 25 and 30
25
Q

Command and Positions

A
  • Flaps 1 - 20 - Slats 1/2 Position
  • Flaps 5 - 20 - Flaps move accordingly. inbrd ails droop.
(ARM the Flap Load Relief System at 20)
  • Flaps 25 - 30 - Slats Full, Flaps accordingly.
26
Q

Flap Load Relief

A
  • When in 25 or 30, flaps automatically retract to 20 when oversped. They move back to 25 or 30 when airspeed is reduced.
27
Q

What happens if you loose C HYD Pressure?

A
  • Alternate Flap Mode! Extension accomplished electrically.
  • Alternate Gear Extension
  • hopefully you can still brake and steer on ground
28
Q

What do the Alternate Flap Switches do?

A
  1. Allow independent selection of flaps and slats.
  2. Disable the normal control.
  3. Arm the alternate mode.
  4. Engage the Electric Motors.
  5. Disable the Flap Lever.
29
Q

What are Alternate Flap Extension Limitations?

A
  1. Flaps 20. (Procedurally, for possible GA)
  2. No Load Relief
  3. TE Flap Asymmetry Protection not available.
  4. Slow as Fuck. (156 Seconds vs. 26 Seconds)
30
Q

LEADING EDGE light

A
  • Disagreement between selected and actual position
  • Lever not in detent.
  • Asymmetry - HYD Power automatically shut off (to slats)
31
Q

TRAILING EDGE light

A
  • Position Disagreement.
  • Lever not in detent.
  • Asymmetry - HYD Power to Flaps automatically shut off.
  • Load Relief FAILs to work properly
32
Q

What are the three times you will get an UNSHED STAB TRIM.

A
  1. Trim with the A/P
  2. Uncommanded trim movement.
  3. Movement of the STAB in the wrong direction.
33
Q

What logic automatically extends spoilers on a RTO?

A

TRs?

34
Q

Speed brake limitations.

A
  • Not below 800’

- Not for Flaps greater than 20.

35
Q

AUTO SPD BRK light.

A
  • FAULT.
  • May not have SPD Brakes on Landing.
  • If armed, they may extend before you’re on the ground.
