Q

E6B reading

A

Outside - Distance (distance on maps is always NM)

Inside - Time

GS = ground speed

To find ground speed (knots):

  • Fund distance in NM (convert)
  • Align time given to distance
  • Find the big triangle, at a zero to the outer circle and that is your ground soeed in knots

Q

When to use 36sec index

A

When the distance is less than 1/10th of the groundspeed

If GS is 100knots and distance is .5NM, use 36sec index. Read time in SECONDS (think of where the decimal is)

Q

Wind and course

A

Grommet on the clear portion indicates GROUND SPEED and not TAS

Wind Vectors:

1) Wind Direction
2) Wind Speed
3) True Course
4) Ground Speed
5) Drift Correction (find on E6B)
6) True Air Speed
