FLG 330 Flashcards
1
Q
How do cells preclude amplification of signals?
A
By anchoring two or three of the receptor protein kinases to a common scaffold protein. This insulates the pathway from other parallel pathways but also precludes cell signal amplification.
2
Q
Define the term Major histocompatibility complex (MHC)?
A
A group of genes that code for proteins found on the surfaces of cells that help the immune system recognize foreign substances. MHC proteins are found in all higher vertebrates.
The principal function of the MHC is to present antigen to T cells to discriminate between self (our cells and tissues) and nonself (the invaders or modified self).
