7
Q

Offensive attack mode?

A

Commitment of resources to aggressive leak, spill and fire. Used where additional risk is justified because rescue operations can be quickly achieved, spill leak can be quickly contained, fire extinguished.

8
Q

Defensive attack mode?

A

Uses resources to achieve less aggressive objectives such as limiting the overall size or spread of the problem. Used where its not worth the risk involved but where other actions can be taken to mitigate the hazard and protect exposures.

9
Q

Non-intervention mode?

A

Taking no immediate action other than isolating the area until the risk of intervention is reduced to an acceptable level. May be used while assembling resources to commence an offensive attack.

Q

Large Spill?

A

Spill exceeding 55 gallons or multiple spills from multiple small packages or containers. Large spill responses include any incident involving pipelines, horizontal tanks, tank farms, flammable liquid tanker trucks or rail cars.

16
Q

When developing water supply plan, supply should be able to flow at least ______ GPM of finished product per unit flowing?

A

1000

17
Q

Water supply group or officer should be?

A

3rd engine or 2nd BC

18
Q

What are hydrocarbons?

A

Byproduct of crude oil or extracted from vegetable fiber. i.e.- gasoline, diesel

19
Q

What are polar solvents?

A

Products of distillation that are water soluble. Have attraction to water and controlling spills and fire necessitate use of special foam. i.e.- alcohols (ethanol), ketones, lacquers

20
Q

What is the assignment for a large spill?

A

4 Engines, 2 speciality (1 must be truck), 2 EMS units, 1 BC, 1, command aide, 1 EMS supervisor, 1 Foam task force (2 AR foam units, 1 pump and roll unit, 2 engines, 1 BC, 1 haz-mat asset), 1 haz-mat response unit.

21
Q

What are the 4 tactical approaches to tanker truck incidents?

A
  1. assemble resources and extinguish with Class B foam.
  2. Combustible liquids, extinguish with water fog when it can be done without environmental runoff
  3. Protect adjacent exposures, and allow to burn itself out.
  4. Un-ignited leaks and spills should be diked immediately at a safe location and covered with foam to suppress vapors. Remove ignition sources.
22
Q

How should you position or respond to flammable liquid emergency?

A

up-hill, up-wind

23
Q

3 benchmarks that define the nature and scope of flammable liquid incident

A
  1. Life safety
  2. Incident stabilization/protecting the environment
  3. Property conservation
24
Q

What are the overall strategic goals of an incident at a bulk petroleum facility?

A
  1. Rescue
  2. Public protection
  3. Spill control/confinement
  4. Leak control/confinement
  5. Fire control
  6. Recovery

26
Q

Cone/fixed roof tanks larger than 50’ in diameter are required to have what?

A

Weak roof seam. To peel back or blow off if an explosion occurs.

27
Q

What is an open top floating roof tank?

A

A tank that has a roof that floats on top of the product to minimize vapor space.

28
Q

Covered floating roof is a combination of what 2 types of tank roofs?

A

Floating roof tank and cone/fixed roof

29
Q

What are the 3 foam application methods?

A
  1. Roll on
  2. Bank down
  3. Rain down
