What is the Balke test aim?

A

A clinical test on a treadmill to test peak VO2 max

What is the Balke test?

A

The treadmill is set at a certain speed and gradient. This is increased by a set increment each minute until exhaustion is reached and the person cannot continue.
e.g. set at 8.5 kmph and increase by 0.5 kmph each minute

A

Running at max effort for 15 minutes. The distance is recorded and then used to calculate VO2 max.
