What is the test for agility?
Illinois agility test
Describe multistage fitness test
•A recording of a series of timed bleeps
•Shuttle runs are 20m apart
•Performers have to touch cones before the bleep
•Bleeps get progressively closer together
•Miss three bleeps and your out
•Progressive and maximal
Illinois agility appropriateness
•Tennis players need good agility to change direction at speed following the direction of the ball after it has been hit by their opponent
•100m runners do not need to change direction therefore this does not need to be tested
Stork balance test
•Gymnasts may well hold balances still and therefore it is appropriate to work out how good their static balance is
•Squash players constantly moving and never still so static balance not necessary
Multistage fitness test
•Basketballer needs good aerobic fitness and often runs up and down the court
•Golfers do not need to run up and down and cardiovascular endurance is not needed
Wall toss test
•Cricketers need good co-ordination and should be able to catch with both hands
•Outfield footballers need good co-ordination but not with their hands so test is not necessary
Sit and reach test
•Dancers need good flexibility and makes their performance more aesthetically pleasing
•Swimmers need flexibility but not ad much hamstring flexibility
Sit-up bleep test
•Goalkeeper may make regular saves involving movement in their upper and lower body
•Marathon runners do need muscular endurance but the movement involved does not mimic movement of running
Vertical jump
Basketball players need to jump using leg power
Kayaking requires no leg power vertically
Ruler drop
Cricketers may need to react quickly to an object using their hands
Snowboards do need reaction time but catching a ruler does not mimic the action they use
One rep max
Boxers may well need to exert maximal force in a punch
400m runner would not need to exert maximal force in a race
Hand grip dynamometer
Judo holds require maximal grip strength
Sprinters have no need for grip strength
