Q

What is periodontal probing

A

Periodontal probing is a dental procedure.
It assesses the health of gums and supporting structures around teeth.
Measurement of the depth of the gingival sulcus or periodontal pockets is central to the procedure.
Periodontal probes, thin and flexible instruments marked in millimeters, are used for the assessment.

Q

Plaque

A

Two most common dental diseases: dental caries and periodontal diseases, both plaque-related.
Plaque biofilm is primary factor in these diseases.
Controlling dental plaque biofilm crucial for prevention.
Effective tooth-cleaning practices include tooth brushing and interdental cleaning (flossing, woodsticks, interdental brushes).
These practices disrupt most plaque.
Some areas on teeth not easily accessed, allowing plaque to mature and produce acidic by-products, leading to tooth decay and cavities.
