Vertebral Column

a group of cells that develop from the never cord in vertebrates

a paddle shaped structure on a fish or other aquatic animal that is used for balance, and propulsion

Operculum
a movable flap that covers the gills and protects them
Atrium
the chamber that receives blood from the heart
Ventricle
a chamber of the heart that pumps blood from the heart to the gills

a filtering unit for the kidney, helps maintain salt and water balance

enables fish to detect movement in water

Brown Bullhead
2 long “whiskers” from the top lip that go down. straight tail fin. 2 short whiskers on top of head. whiskers that go down from bottom lip. greenish body
Brown Trout
yellowish bottom with silver-ish dorsal side with black and red spots. tail slightly forked
Burbot/Eelpout
white bottom. dark dorsal side. very slimy. dorsal fin and anal fish is wavy. tail fin is reverse fork or rounded
Channel Catfish
blue-ish to grey color. very forked tail fin. commonly mistaken for brown bullhead
Common Carp
a heavy-bodied minnow with whiskers on either side of the upper jaw. stocky bodies, large scales, and range in color from dark olive bronze on the top of the back to lighter silvery yellow on the belly.
crappie
usually silvery-gray to green in color and show black splotches over the entire body. The dorsal and anal fins resemble each other in shape. most common pan-fish in north america
Flathead Catfish
lower jaw is slightly more forward then the lower jaw. head is more flat then other catfish.

rows of bony plates most noticeable on lateral line
Lake Trout
round snout. deep forked tail. grey with blue/green tint on body with white/cream color spots
