First Hop Redundancy Protocols Flashcards
Which FHRP’s are Cisco proprietary?
HSRP
GLBP
Which FHRP is an IETF standard?
VRRP
What is the default HSRP gateway value?
100
How is an active router determined?
The priority value ranges from 0 to 255.
Unlike spanning-tree, the router with the highest priority becomes the active router.
The router with the second highest IP address is elected as the standby router.
What is the purpose of the standby preempt command?
When you issue the standby preempt command on a router, you are essentially telling it to become the active router if its priority is higher than the current active router. In other words, it “preempts” the active router if its own priority is higher.
How do FHRP device realize a device has gone down?
They stop receiving Hello packets
What terms are used for the two different types of routers running HSRP?
active and standby
What are the multicast addresses for v1 and v2 of HSRP
v1 = 224.0.0.2
v2 = 224.0.0.102
What do the virtual MAC addresses look like for HSRP v1 and v2
v1 = 0000.0c07.acXX (XX= group number)
v2 = 0000.0c9f.fxxx (XXX = group number)
What are the terms used for the two different types of routers running VRRP?
master and backup
What is the multicast address for VRRP?
224.0.0.18
What is the virtual MAC for VRRP?
0000.5e00.01xx (XX = VRRP group number)
What is a major difference between GLBP and HSRP/VRRP
GLBP load balances among multiple routers within a single subnet, while the other protocols have 1 router per subnet
In GLBP, what is the equivalent of a HSRP active router?
AVG (Active Virtual Gateway)
How does GLBP perform load balancing?
Up to four AVF (Active Virtual Forwarders) are assigned by the AVG. Each AVG acts as the default gateway for a portion of the hosts in the subnet.
