First Exam Lab Flashcards
What is aespetic technique
technique for manipulation of compounded sterile compounds and parental preparations that prevent contamination
What is the iso rating of the hood, buffer room
at least iso 5, at least iso 7
What is the ante room
space directly adjacent to the buffer area where non sterile activities related to compounding take place
What is the buffer room, what is the minimum iso rating
The room where actual compounding is taking place, iso 7
T/F: The higher the count, the cleaner the air
False: The lower the count, the cleaner the air
What is negative pressure, when is it present
airflow is flowing inward (into the hood/room) and vented to the outside, required for hazardous preparations
What is positive pressure, when is it present
airflow is outward (out of the hood/room) to prevent contamination of CSPs, used for non hazardous CSPs
How does the cleaning occur
Clean from the cleanest area to the dirties areas
What is the HEPA filter
Removes 99.7% of particles in the air, flows in one direction at a constant rate, moves particles away from the CSPs
What is horizontal flow hood
air blows toward personnel
What is vertical flow hood
air blows from top down
What are biological safety cabinets (chemo hoods)
negative pressure hood used to prepare CSPs
What is the difference between compounding aseptic isolators (CAIs) and compounding aseptic containment isolators (CACIs)
postive pressure, used for non hazardous drugs (CAIs)/negative pressure, used for hazardous drugs (CACIs)
What is the volume of the SVP,LVP
100ml or less, greater than 100ml volume
What is the technique to cleaning the hood
top to bottom, back to front, perpendicular to the airflow
T/F: As a general rule you should use a syringe that has a capacity that is approximately double the volume you will be withdrawing
True
What is a 2-in-1
A PN that has 2 compounding ports going into 1 bag, one is carbohydrates and one is amino acids
What is a 3-in-1
A PN that has 3 compounding ports going into 1 bag, one is carbohydrates, one is amino acids, one is IV fat emulsion
What are the macronutrients
Dextrose, amino acids, fat emulsion
What are the micronutrients
electrolytes, vitamins, trace element minerals
What is a TPN
PN formulation that contains fat, carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins, electrolytes in a single container
What is the order for mixing to the TPN container
The lipids can be added to the TPN container either first or last as long as the lipids and dextrose are not added next to each other
