What is care under fire?

A
  1. Return fire before providing first aid
  2. Determine if the casualty is alive or dead
  3. Provide care to the living casualty, direct them to return fire, move to cover, administer first aid - if they can
  4. Check for massive hemorrhage, apply TQ using the casualty’s IFAK
  5. Move the casualty when the tactical situation permits
  6. Reassess TQ

A
  1. Kneel next to the casualty
  2. Place your hand on the forehead, apply firm, backward pressure to tilt the head
  3. Place fingertips on the bony part of the jaw to lift the jaw forward, do not close the mouth completely

  2. Rest your elbows on the ground
  3. Place one hand on each side of the casualty’s lower jaw, below the ears
  4. Stabilize the head with the forearms
  5. Use the index finger to push the angles of the lower jaw forward.
