Heat Exahustion
A
Caused by vigorous exercise in a warm or hot environment
- Look for signs like sweating, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps etc
- Have the child lay down in a cool place or in the shade (bring inside)
- Remove as much of clothing as possible
- Cool the child with cool water spray
- If spray isn’t available, place cool damp clothes on the neck, armpit or groin area
- Have them drink something that constrains sugar and electrolytes (juice, sports drink) or water

Stoping Bleeding
A
- Find the place that’s bleeding
- If it is minor, wash the area with clean water and soap if available before applying dressings
- Put dressing on the wound- if needed add more dressing to the top
- Apply direct pressure
- Wrap a bandage firmly over the dressing if you can’t keep pressure

Q
Bites and stings
A
- Find where child was stung/bitten
- Wash wound with a lot of running water and soap if available
- Stop any bleeding with pressure and bandages
- For all bites that break the skin, phone a healthcare provider
- If there is a bruise or swelling, place a bag of ice and water in a towel on the bite for up to 20 mins
- Look for signs of an allergic reaction- if yes, phone 911 and prepare for CPR
Snakebite
- Look for signs that it is poisonous
- Move any other people away or inside from the area
- Tell child to stay calm and not to move the part of body that was bitten
- Remove any tight clothing and jewelry
- Gently wash the bite area with running water and soap, if available
Bee Sting:
- Get epi pen
- Look for stinger, scrape away the singer and venom sac with something with a full edge
- Put a bag of ice and water over bite
- See if the child needs CPR
- Watch the child for at least 30 minutes for signs of an allergic reaction

Broken Bones, Sprains, and Bruises
A
- Look for broken bones or sprains. Sings include: swelling, pain, blue
- Cover an open wound with a clean dressing
- Put a plastic bag filled with ice and water on the injured area with a towel between the ice bag and skin for up to 20 mins
- Avoid using part until checked by a healthcare provider

Burns
A
- Check the child and find all burn areas
- If the burn area is small, cool it with cold, but not ice cold, wayer. Run cold water on the burn until it doesn’t hurt
- You may cover the burn with a dry, nonstick sterile or clean dressing
