Normal blood pressure?
less than 130/less than 85
Common error in measuring BP?
Cuff is too small-causes overestimation. Not an issue if cuff is too large
Stethoscope pressure too firm?
lowers the diastolic reading-systolic is fine
Normal temperature?
35.8-37.3 C
Tympanic temperature is….
best reflection of core temperature
symmetrical pulses should be assessed simultaneously except for…
carotid pulse
Normal pulse rate?
60-100 BPM
Normal respirations?
10-20, ideal 12-20 breaths per minute
Normal pulse oximetry?
97% to 98%, 90 or greater is acceptable
Influences on BP-gender?
girls have lower bp after puberty, once menopause-opposite
level of arm for BP, if higher? if lower?
if higher=both will be lower, if lower=both will be higher
what is the auscultatory gap?
the disappearance of sound during auscultation right after systolic for varying lengths of time
