7
Q

(T) Explain how system detects the overheat or fire?

A

One of the loops loses pressure within the loops, sends signal to MAU to provide an alert into the cockpit.

16
Q

(B) What is the purpose of the recirculation and outflow valve in the forward cargo compartment?

A
  1. Prevents oxygen from entering the compartment

2. Prevents halon agent from escaping into the aircraft’s cabin

17
Q

(B) How many fire extinguishing bottles are installed for the cargo compartment?

A
  • 2 bottles used for both compartments

- 1 High-Rate/1 Low-Rate

18
Q

(B) What is the difference between the high-rate bottle and the low-rate bottle?

A
  • High-rate bottle saturates the compartment immediately (1min)
  • Low-rate bottle maintains saturation over a duration of time(1hr)
19
Q

(B) How long will the low-rate bottle remain active in the compartment?

A

60 minutes

20
Q

(B) Can one bottle be used for one compartment and the other bottle for the other compartment?

A

No. Only one compartment because the fire must be extinguished by the high-rate bottle and maintain saturation after that with the low-rate bottle

21
Q

(B) What happens when a cargo extinguishing button is pushed if smoke has been detected?

A
    1. Cargo light illuminates
    1. High-rate bottle discharges immediately
    1. Low-rate bottle discharges after 1 minute
NOTE: With WOW, Low-rate bottle does not discharge automatically
22
Q

(B) During flight, can the low-rate bottle be discharged before the minute is up?

A

Yes, by pressing the button again

23
Q

(B) How can the low-rate bottle be discharged if the airplane is on the ground?

A

Pressing the button after discharging the high-rate bottle

24
Q

(B) Can cargo extinguishing be used if no smoke is detected?

A

Yes - The High-Rate bottle must be pressed twice

Then the Low-Rate bottle discharges after 1 minute

25
(B) How are the lavatories protected from fire?
Heat-sensitive extinguishers in the lav waste bins automatically discharge if a predetermined temperature
26
(T) How does the lav fire-extinguisher discharge the bottle?
It has waxed tips on the pressure nozzles, in which if heat reaches 78°C the tips melt off and the bottle discharges
27
(O) Describe the fire test
1. Push the Test Button (minimum 3 sec) 2. Fire Bell and Triple Chime Rule 6-5-4 - Overhead panel (6) 1. Fire Handle 1 2. Fire Handle 2 3. Cargo FWD button 4. AFT button 5. APU extinguisher button 6. APU emergency stop (Top half of button) - EICAS (5) 1. ENG 1 FIRE 2. ENG 2 FIRE 3. CARGO FWD SMOKE 4. CARGO AFT SMOKE 5. APU FIRE - Visual Indications 1. Fire (Engine 1 ITT) 2. Fire (Engine 2 ITT) 3. Master Warning light (left) 4. Master Warning light (right)
28
(o) How do we know if there is smoke in the lav? What should you do?
- Flight attendants or smell of smoke | - QRH
29
(T) When will the APU shut down on the ground automatically?
10 seconds after EMER STOP has not been pushed
30
(O) When will the second cargo detector arm the fire bottle?
45 seconds from the time the first detector detected smoke
