What is compartmentation?
The division of a building into cells, using fire resistant materials to prevent the passage of fire from one cell to another for a given period of time.
What 2 things does fire safety in buildings involve?
Detecting and warning - using smoke and heat alarms
Combating fire- using sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, dry riser, wet riser and providing enough access for firefighters

What is involved in construction for fire safety?
Providing a sufficient fire rating for a structure (beams, volumes, cores) and building elements (roofs, walls, ceilings, doors)
