What’s the use of finishing
To enhance the aesthetics of the final product as well as protecting aspects such as weathering, moisture and decay.
Paper and board finishing
Finishes for this should be overlooked in graphic design, protecting it from liquid spills or dirt for example lamination
What’s embossing and deposing
Embossing creates a raised design on the surface
Debossing is the opposite and imprinted a depression which sits below the surface of the paper or card
Explain the reason for
Foil blocking
Varnishing
Foil blocking- creates depth and texture aesthetically
Varnishing- offers protection but looks better aesthetically
Polymer finishes
Polymers are considered to be self-finishing
Metal finishing
Finishes are applied to metals to enhance their appearance and help provide a barrier against corrosion.
Examples of metal finishes
-Paint adds Colour and texture
-Electroplating involves a coat going around the metal provide a protective layer and also gives an aesthetic appeal
-varnishing Clear finish to protect the metal and allow the original colour to be seen and protected
-Anodising This is use for aluminium products and enhances, natural oxide layers, so it can increase the hardness and toughness of the aluminium
Why do we need Wood finishes
Prevent the word from exhausting moisture
Prevent against decay
Protect against insect attack
Enhances the appearance of the product
