Car count
I counted a higher amount of cars in the gorbals 23 compared to only 2 in Buchanan street, this is a difference of 21. I counted the cars next to a cross road with traffic lights so traffic and through in bursts where as in Buchanan street there was a one way road, this will help with traffic congestion in the city, this was next to a pedestrianised street so there is a reason why the difference in cars was so high.
Bus count
The cbd is usually known for being a main route centre for public transport
So I tested this by counted the amount of buses in each area, in Buchanan street I counted 9 buses where as I counted only 1 bus in the gorbals. This shows more public transport is used in Buchanan street.
Reasons for more public transport in cbd
A reason for this is it is a lot more cheaper to use public transport rather than paying for petrol or parking. Another reason is that there is now’s a low emissions zone in Glasgow so this can impact people and tourists travelling into Glasgow by car so they will need to use public transportation.
Evidence of regeneration
In the gorbals I seen evidence of regeneration because in my picture 1 I seen a brown field so this means old tedement buildings are being demolished for more modern buildings to be built.
Evidence of old industry
I also seen evidence of old industry in Glasgow, in my first map you can see princess dock which was used for ships being build there. We can also see abnormal buildings in the bottom of the map which were probably factories in the past and have been changed into something else.
Change in inner city
The inner city was known for workers living in tedement buildings next to there work and where usually quite rough and has graffiti and litter but when I visited the gorbals it was different and didn’t fit the requirements at all, this was because we walked by very modern buildings where where flats and they had parks and clean walkways which show the area has changed and doesn’t really fit being classed as-the inner city.
Litter
On my EQS i rated the amount of litter in the gorbals a 4 which means there wasn’t as much litter, where as in Buchanan street I rated the amount of litter as a 1 which is pretty terrible.
- litter in cbd so high because of shops and restaurants so more litter will be dropped
-not as much litter because council keeping area clean after regeneration to attract new buyers and renters.
Safety
In Clarkston I rated the area of safety a 5 whereas I rated the area of the gorbals as a 3.
-in clarkston roads where quite so it was peaceful
-and no pedestrians nearby so it wasn’t busy
-more posh people due to expensive housing so felt safe
- in gorbals roads where busy
- construction sites so area was unsafe
Green space
In clarkston I rated the amount of green space a 4 where I only rate the amount of green space in Buchanan street a 1.
-one reason for green space being high in clarkston was because the houses where detached and had large gardens and we can see this in my second picture of Clarkston because there is trees in the background and we can see the gardens.
- the reason for there being no green space in Buchanan street was because there is condensed sky high buildings on each side of the street and the streets where cobbled because it was a pedestrianised street, this is evidence that Buchanan street could be the CBD

Pedestrian count
I counted a higher amount of pedestrians in Buchanan street,135, compared to only 5 in clarkston. This is a difference of 130. Buchanan street is a pedestrianised street with many shops on each side of the street, so that’s is why there are more pedestrians. It was also 11:30 in the morning on a Monday so people could be out on there lunch break from work having something to eat. Another reason why Buchanan street has more pedestrians was because there are many public transport links so people could be walking to work or doing shopping in general. It was 10:00am on a Monday in clarkston so people would already be at work or school and away from there houses. Another reason for there being less pedestrians in clarkston is because they’re are only houses in the area and no shops nearby so unless you live there there is no reason to go to the area if you are a tourist.these are more reasons why Glasgow could maybe fit the burgess model
