What are the 4 types of bones
long bones
Short bones
Flat bones
Irregular bones
explain long bones
Longer then they are wide
function to support weight of the body and facilitate movenment
example of long bones
all limb bones ( humerus, femur, radius)
explain short bones
Equal in length, width and thickness- cube shaped
Function to provide stability and some movenment
Example of short bones
carpals in the wrist and tarsals in the anlke
explain flat bones
Thin and flat, often curved
Function to protect internal organs such as the brain, heart and pelvic organs
example of flat bones
cranium, sternum and ribs
explain irregular bones
Bones which have complicated shapes and structure and therefore don’t fit into any other catagory of bines.
Mojor functions is to protect vital organs such as the spinal cord
