Finals / NeSA Flashcards
Hypothesis
The proposed scientific explanation for a set of observations
Theory
Ideas that have been supported over time
Control Group
A group of subjects closely resembling the experimental group, but does not receive the factor under study. (used as comparison)
Experimental Group
A group of subjects which receive the factor under study
Stimulus
Any physical or chemical input that is sensed
Atom
basic unit of matter
Proton
the + charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom
Neutron
the - charged particle found in the nucleus of an atom
Electron
the no charge charged particle found the nucleus of an atom
Molecule
A group of atoms bonded together forming the smallest fundamental unit of a pure substance
Isotopes
atoms of the same element with a different number of neutrons
Chemical Bonding
An attraction between two or more atoms resulting in the formation of different chemical substances
Chemical Reaction
changes in chemical substances involving bond breaking and/or bond forming resulting in different chemical substances
Ion
A positively or negatively charged atom
Ionic Bond
formed when one or more are transferred from one atom to another
