Finals Flashcards
Refraction and Examples
Light bending to another medium to another is refraction an example of this is a pencil looking broken through a glass of water or when sun shines through a light rain creating a rainbow because it bends through the air into the rain droplets
Reflection and Examples
As you talk in a large, empty building as you talk you can hear your voice being returned to you the property of waves is reflection because your sound waves bounce of the walls and come back at you
Lunar Eclipse and Cause
Lunar eclipse is Sun Earth Moon (full moon) and happens when the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow
Solar Eclipse and Cause
Solar eclipse happens when the moon (new moon) passes through the earth and sun and casts a shadow on the surface of the Earth. A total solar eclipse is caused by the moon’s umbra.
Moon Phases
Remember to go from New Moon
Why do we see the same craters of the moon?
We see the same craters on the moon because it rotates and revolves at the same speed
Weather Tools
Anemometer measures wind speeds
We do we not have an eclipse every New and Full Moon?
We don’t have an eclipse every new and full moon because the tilt of the moon’s orbit (5 degree)
Air Currents
On a hot day at the beach the hot air rises and passes over the ocean and begins to cool. The air then falls and lowers rushing in to fill the air space created by the once warm air.
Human Interaction with Climate Change
Deforestation means that trees, carbon sinks, are cut down releasing carbon into the air. Also, when they are dead, no carbon can be taken in from them.
Another example is burning fossil fuels. This means that factories burn fossil fuels meaning that heat gets trapped within Earth’s atmosphere.
When barometric pressure and temperatures drop, what does that mean/indicate?
This means that a thunderstorm is likely to occur.
