Finals Flashcards
What type of wave is it when the medium is perpendicular to the wave’s motion?
Transverse
What is a transverse wave?
When the medium is pushed/pulled in a way that is perpendicular to the wave
What type of wave is light?
Transverse
What type of wave is it when the medium is pushed/pulled parallel to the direction of the wave?
Longitudinal wave: LongitudinaL, paraLLeL
What is charge by friction?
When two insulators rubb together
What is it called when two insulators transfer charge by rubbing?
Charge by friction
What happens in charge by friction?
Two insulators run together and one steals the electrons from the other. They become equal and opposite.
What is it when two conductors rub together?
The conductors end up equal
What is charge by induction?
When a charged object and a conductor don’t touch but are close together, and the the conductor ends up opposite of the charged object.
What are electromagnetic waves?
The opposite of mechanical waves: em waves can travel through vacuums, but mechanical waves can’t. Light is an em wave, sound is mechanical
In charge, which tow ways cause the objects involve to become equal and opposite? Which one causes the objects to be equal?
Equal and opposite: charge by induction, charge by friction.
Equal: charge by conduction
What is a generator?
Takes motion and turns it into curren
What does a generator need?
A coil of wire
A source of motion
A magnet
Bring the wire near the magnet, turn the wire this changes the b field
What is a motor?
Uses current to make motion
What do you need to make a motor?
A magnet
A coil of wire
Current
Put the current through the wire, creating a b field, put magnet near wire changes b field makes wore spin
