Corns are small circles of thick skin that often develop on the tops and sides of toes or on the sole of the foot.

Calluses are larger, less well-defined, rough areas of skin that are often yellowish in colour. They often develop on the parts of the foot that take the most weight, such as the ball of the foot.

Q

What is the cause of blue nails?

A

Blue discoloration of your fingernails can be caused by problems in the lungs, heart, blood cells, or blood vessels.

Blue fingernails are caused by a low level or lack of oxygen circulating in your red blood cells. This condition is known as cyanosis.

Cold temperatures can also cause your fingernails to turn blue. That’s because cold temperatures force your blood vessels to constrict. The narrow pathways make it difficult for the right amount of oxygen-rich blood to get to your nails.

Q

what is a bunion? Would a bunion restrict a pedicure service?

A

A bunion is a bony deformity at the base of the big toe, which often causes the big toe to point inwards, towards the other toes. A bunion develops when the small bones in the toes (phalanges) move out of line with the longer bones that run through the foot towards the ankle (metatarsals).

The progression of a bunion may be slowed by wearing wider-fitting shoes or using insoles (orthotics) and bunion pads. Pain can be treated with painkillers. The only permanent solution is surgery.

People with bunions can still get a pedicure

What are the benefits of manicures and pedicures?

A

-Increase blood circulation
During any manicure or pedicure, you receive a relaxing massage of the hands and feet. This helps to improve blood circulation and improves mobility for the joints.

-Improve the Health of your Nails
With regular manicures and pedicures, the chances of your nails developing fungi and other infections are reduced. It’s a good idea to have a deep cleaning so the dead skin cells on your hands can be removed. That encourages new cell growth, leaving your nails stronger and healthier. Regular mani-pedi sessions remove dirt from under your nails and hard-to-reach places, thus keeping your nails strong and healthy. This in turn will reduce your chances of getting an infection.

-De-stress
We all know that body massages are a great way to relax and rejuvenate your nerves, but sometimes all it takes to relax is a hand and foot massage. Manicures and pedicures are a great way to relax while improving the look and feel of your hands and feet.
