Art Nouveau font is popularized
Part of the modernization of Paris, first metro entrance, People thought the underground metro was like going into a beast, so Guimard played off of that.
Wanted to help people accept modernization

Fauvism championed by Matisse, reaction to post-impressionism
Wanted to express instead of represent
Express through color, so he claimed that color was arbitrary
Matisse was called a wild beast with color
Lots of different blues and greens and very saturated
