Final Exam - Short Answer Flashcards
What is hyperspectral remote sensing?
-data collection in hundreds of very narrow spectral bands
-provides information about Earths surfaces like minerals and vegetation
-electromagnetic spectrum
-very useful for identification and characterization of materials
Talk about the Landsat Satellite Series
-Initiated by NASA
-Most recent is Landsat 9
-orbits around earth 919 km altitude
-14 orbits a day
-nearly polar inclination
-sun synch orbit
-spatial resolution of 79 m x 57 m
What changes have been made to Landsat
-increased number of spectral bands
-improved spatial and spectral resolution
-increased angle view
-16 day cycle
-new addition of panchromatic band (Landsat 9 has 8 spectral bands)
Explain AOIs
-AOIs are called areas of interest
-You can use them in ERDAS
-From these you can make subset images
-Goes hand in hand with inquire bos
Explain Inquire Box
-A tool in ERDAS
-gives coordinates of a certain point
-can give coordinates of an AOI
-can change the color of the AOI box
