Final: Chapter 17 Flashcards
1
Q
cytoskeleton
A
- intricate network of protein filaments that extends throughout the cytoplasm
- supports the large volume of cytoplasm(important in animals w/o cell walls)
- crawling of cells along a surface, the contraction of muscle cells, and the changes in cell shape that take place as an embryo develops
- controls the location of the organelles and provides the machinery for transport between them
- responsible for the segregation of chromosomes into two daughter cells at cell division and for pinching apart those two new cells
2
Q
cytoskeleton structure
A
- intermediate filaments(family of fibrous filaments forms), microtubules(globular tubulin forms), and actin filaments(globular actin filaments form)
- each has distinct mechanical properties and is formed from a diff protein subunit
