Final Advanced. Flashcards
Southwest Monsoon
Northeast Monsoon
…
Land Breeze
Wind Blows land to sea>formed by difference in air pressure due to diff rates at which land and water bodies cool> land cools down faster than water at night>sea has higher temp, lower air pressure than land>air moves from an area of higher pressure to lower pressure> forms land breeze that blows land to sea at night.
Sea Breeze
Wind blows from sea to land>formedby diff rates land and water bodies heat up> during day land heats up faster than nearby water>air pressure over land than sea>wind blows from sea to land during the day to form sea breeze.
Convectional Rain
Moist air passes over the sea and arrives at coast> Air rises up the windward side of the mountain and cools>temperature of air reaches dew point>condensation occurs forming clouds>Water droplets become large and heavy>fall to the ground as rain.
Relief Rain
Sun heats up earth’s surface>warms the surface, heats air>air becomes unstable>expands and rises>Temp drops as air rises>Rising air cools to dew point temperature>Condensation occurs forming clouds> Water droplets become large and heavy>fall to the ground as rain.
Cloud Formation
Earth Surface Heats Up>Water turns to water vapour via evaporation>Water Vapour Rises>Starts to cool> Reaches Dew Point Temperature>Condensation happens forming clouds.
