Why did אהרון tell בנ״י to collect the jewelry? If sounds like he’s going along with their plan.
He thought it would stall them. He knew the women wouldn’t let the men take their precious jewelry so it would take a long time for them to actually get the jewelry, and Moshe would be back. But the men just went and took the jewelry without permission because they wanted to get it done.
Why is what בני did with the jewelry so bad? They just wanted something to bring them closer to Hashem. (2)
1) when you get advice from a rabbi, you don’t say your ideas straight out. You ask for advice, and then you can give your ideas
2) they jumped straight to an extreme when the made an idol. They didn’t t of asking for advice for a better plan

To stall them
How did the gold come out as a golden calf?
Through the magic of the ערב רב
Who were the ערב רב?
A group of מצריים who converted but weren’t really legitimate. Moshe let them in
What did אהרון do that was really wrong with the מזבח?
He threw in the gold, and he sinned for that
Who is מיכה? Why is he blamed for the עגל?
When the Jews were working in מצרים, if they didn’t work hard enough they had to use their own babies as bricks. Moshe wanted so badly to save these babies and Hashem let him save one because he wouldn’t stop begging. And that baby was מיכה.
He used the שם המפרש- the name of Hashem that were not allowed to know, that brought up Yosef’s bones (that’s where he got it from)- to make the עגל come alive
Why do בני say to the ערב רב “your” Gd and not “our” Gd?
Because it was the ערב רב who did everything, not בני
What were the ערב רב responsible for in the חטא העגל?

1) they asked אהרון to make the עגל
2) they made the עגל
3) they caused בני to sin
How can Hashem let this whole חטא העגל happen?
It was an extreme test but it was a test for בני, to see how strong their אמונה in Hashem is
How do we see the strength of בני? What do we learn from them?
The satan went so far and overreact to make בני sin. But they were the דור דעה, they were on the highest level. They were able to beat the satan. And if hey can conquer such a big test like that, we can conquer little tests
וירא אהרון- what did אהרון see?
He saw the golden calf had a live spirit
Why did אהרון say to make the עגל tomorrow and not tonight? (4)
1) to stall them, because by tomorrow Moshe will already be back
2) אהרון saw what happened to חור. He tried to rebuke בני for the עגל and they killed him. (So אהרון knows he can’t stop them by telling them something)
3) אהרון said it’s better e blame falls on him, one person, than the whole entire בני getting punished for it, so he should be the one responsible for making it
4) he said he’ll do it himself so it’ll take longer And Moshe will be back before it’s built

What was written on the לוחות?
Everything Hashem told them by הר סיני
How could בני come to sin with the עגל if they were on the highest level of spirituality and they just saw all of Hashem’s crazy miracles?!
They were afraid because Moshe wasn’t coming home when they calculated he would- ט״ז תמוז- and they thought he died.
What was wrong with בני’s calculations?
They counted the day he left as a full day when it should’ve been counted as a half day
Why did Hashem tell Moshe it was his nation?
Moshe let the ערב רב in on his own terms and then this happened
Why did Moshe drop the לוחות?
When he saw the עגל the holiness left the לוחות - the letters flew out and the holiness left it. and then Moshe was just holding heavy stone and it got too heavy and he dropped it.
What did Moshe do with the עגל? What is a lesson to take from this?
He ground it up into dust and threw the remains into the water- shows it has 0 power, it’s not a god.
We need to do tubs to our sins. Get rid of them and turn them into nothing by showing we have no connection to them
