Final Flashcards
How do we know Hashem cares about how we look?
שמח בחגך- it was a mitzvah for men to buy new clothing for their wives on the holidays, so women can feel good and be happy on the holidays
How do we come to understand the halachot of tzniut?
Hashem wants us to look and feel pretty. And once we understand that, we understand the Halachot. They aren’t to ruin our lives, but to make our lives more meaningful with value. Hashem wants us to be princesses
Where does it say in the Torah to be tzniut? (4)
1) Hashem wants us to be different than the goyim, and He wants us to look different also. We are Hashem’s chosen nation, and Hashem wants to easily spot his kids, just like parents make their children match so they can be easily spotted. Hashem doesn’t want us to look the same as the goyim.
2) you would make sure a the path of a blind man is cleared so that he doesn’t trip, when a man sins by seeing a part of a woman’s body that he’s not supplied to, it’s the woman putting a stumbling block in front of him like a blind man. Man has a strong yetzer hara, don’t provoke him by dressing immodestly and causing him to sin.
3) guard yourself from all bad- immorality. Do the opposite, dress modestly. If you wear the right “protection” you’ll enjoy this world, you’re protecting yourself from what’s out there.
4) Hashem has no problem protecting us, BUT Hashem said then we have to be tzniut. If we’re not tzniut Hashem will turn away and remove that extra protection and care b
What does tzniut do for me physically?
Gives us protection. It invites Hashem into our life.
What should we know when moving forward in tzniut?
Every step forward, Hashem is with us helping us. It is not a burden, it is love.
Why should we learn new tzniut halachot with love?
You have the opportunity to have Hashem more in your life with His protection and care and love
What does tzniut do for you emotionally?
When you see a police men dressed in uniform, they lol professional and you respect them. We treat people the way we view them. When a woman dresses provocatively, men will treat them disgusting. You’re giving off an impression to them and you can’t blame them for treating you that way. And then you view yourself differently. Don’t you want to know that your husband loves you for you and not for your body. When you dress immodestly you’re not giving them a chance to see your value.
What makes it easier to be good?
By taking on any other mitzot, it makes it much easier to takes steps forward in other ones
Why is the yetzer hara strongest in tzniut for women?
1) Because he knows it’s what gives you the most beracha. That’s what you have to keep taking action, because once you don’t, he will get you. When you’re in it you feel the empowerment and the love.
2) tzniut for women and Talmud Torah for men are constant mitzvot, every minute Hashem is blessing you
If we’re getting so much out of tzniut then why on earth is it so hard for us? (2)
1) thinking about how your family will take it makes it much harder. Solution= the main they’re worried about is losing you, so you have to show them that you’re still there and you’re the same.
2) it’s very public and people are going to talk. On the first day you’re news but it will die down, everyone will be used to it.
How do we take things upon ourselves for Hashem?(4)
1) grow in steps, it’s a never ending process
2) if you don’t have the strength to do it, cheer someone else on
3) show sensitivity. If you can’t wear a skirt, at least wear one when you’re at ship or with a rabbi.
4) learn the halachot. Once you see the beauty, you’ll want to do the halachot. Unless you’re constantly learning about tzniut it’s hard to grow.
Why can’t women wear pants?
It outlines the body, which shouldn’t be seen. And rabbis say it’s men’s clothing.
Why is it okay to take tzniut in steps?
Hashem is so passionate and understanding of our situation and He counts effort. If you were trying hard and don’t succeed, Hashem doesn’t fail you.
Why do women have to cover their hair and not something else?
Hair is very important to a woman, it makes us feel pretty. But s married woman is very different from a single girl. A married woman has a status, she belongs to someone. So it’s a appropriate for a woman to show her status and cover her hair.
Why does a boy wear a kippah?
It’s a reminder that Hashem is always around you and to have yirat Hashem.
