Final Flashcards
What are the rules for finding TPs in thoracic spine?
T1-T4 and T9 go up 1 spinous and lateral
T5-T8 go up 2 interspinous spaces and lateral
How do you find MPs in lumbar spine?
Go to interspinous space, slightly superior and then lateral (it’s at the lower ⅓ of the vertebra above)
What are the attachments for the multifidi?
C2-L5 SPs to LPJs (cervical spine), TPs (thoracic spine), and MPs (lumbar spine) below
What are the indications of the multifidi?
-spinous rotation
-will be active on opposite side of spinous rotation
Ex: if T5 SP is rotated to the L, then the R multifidi is active
What are the attachments of the serratus posterior superior?
C7-T3 SPs and down to ribs 2-5
What are the indications of serratus posterior superior?
spinous rotation on opposite side
What are the attachments of the serratus posterior inferior?
T11-L2 SPs and up to ribs 9-12
What are the indications of the serratus posterior inferior?
spinous rotation on opposite side
Can be bilateral (potentially means posterior rotation)
note: this muscle helps with exhalation and patients with history of breathing problems like asthma or COPD, this muscle is extra developed, not necessarily tense
What are the erector spinae muscles we palpated in class?
longissimus and iliocostalis
What 2 muscles are pelvic muscles?
longissimus and iliocostalis (erector spinae muscles)
What are the attachments of the iliocostalis?
Ilium and ribs
What are the attachments of the longissimus?
sacrum and TPs
What are the indications of iliocostalis?
PI ilium
What are the indications of longissimus?
inferior sacrum
What are the attachments of the sacroiliac (SI) ligament?
Sacrum to ilium
