Thomas Jefferson bought double the country for $15 million from France
Lewis and Clark Expedition
They set on an expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase with Sacagawea who helped talk to chiefs. They followed the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean and inspired others to explore
Impressment and the attack of the Chesapeake
Impressment-the act of forcing Americans to serve in the British navy(mostly native US citizens)
Chesapeake was a ship intercepted by a British vessel demanding to search for dissenters. The captain refused and the British commander attacked. Now the embargo act is passed to restrict trade but doesn’t help

Manifest destiny realized shortly after. Polk was president. Winfield Scott was sent to declare war. Paid $15 million and 3.25 million reclaimed for American citizens
