Ideological Reading
Seeking to address:
- The explicit political themes of a film/ show
- How it guides the viewer to side with a position
- The unexamined assumptions that the film suggests about the culture and historical time period in which the film was made.
Cultural Contradiction
A way for films and TV shows to align viewers with the ideology of the characters by guiding them through contradictory ideologies.
Normative Critique
Presentation of an idea of what political decisions or attitudes should be and examines media against this norm.
Descriptive Critique
Shows the idea of what should be secondary to explaining the political assumptions of a given film or show.
