final Flashcards
causation
what external stimuli are necessary and sufficient to elicit the motor pattern and what is the nature of the “wiring program”
Survival Value
how behavioral act contributes to survival value and reproductive success of animal performing that act
Ontogeny
how behavioral acts based/influenced by learning or instinctive behavior (nature vs nurture)
evolution
the effect of evolutionary change on behavior
sign stimulus
is a stimulus that is able to evoke a Fixed action pattern behavioral response from an animal
fixed action pattern
an instinctive behavioral response triggered by a sign stimulus. It is an involuntary and stereotyped behavior but the stimulus must reach its threshold before triggered
an example of a sign stimulus, the resulting fixed action pattern and the adaptive value of that FAP
a sign stimulus is a gull seeing the shape of an egg and the fixed action pattern is the rolling egg motion where it brings the egg closer to its chest with its bill in order to increase chances of survival.
