is used worldwide in rehab units to measure ones ability to function with independence. it is applied to grooming, eating, bathing, dressing, toiling, bladder management, bowel management, transferring to bed, chair, and/or w/c on or off toilet, into and out of shower, locomotion for walking or w/c and stairs. also assesses the cog areas of comprehension, expression, social interaction, problem solving and memory
administered within 72 hours after rehab admission, within 72 hours of rehab d/c, and between 80-180 days after d/c
scores range from 1-7 with 1 (total assistance) being the lowest possible and 7 (complete independence) being the best possible score.
