FILTER Flashcards
How many bolts are on the man hole?
32
How many elements are there?
192
Filters are designed to do what?
Remove 98% of all solids and 100% of entrained water from fuel
What are the 2 stages of filtration?
- Coalescing elements
2. Sepator elements
What is the purpose of the coalescing elements?
Surrounded by a hydrophobic screen, it removes solids and coalescing water
Define coalescing?
The bringing together of fine particles of entrained water to form large droplets that fall out of the fuel by gravity
What is the purpose of separator elements?
Repels the coalesced water droplets that were too small to fall out by gravity
What sends an automatic signal to drain to empty accumulated water from the filter sump inside the filter?
Float operated rotary control valve
What is the interior of the filter divided into?
Inlet
Fallout
Outlet by tube sheets
Coalescing element (what is it made of)?
Pleated paper element encased by fiberglass wrappings.
Fiberglass is held by in place by a cloth sleeve.
Flow through coalescent is inside to outside.
Separator element (what is it made out of)?
Consist of perforated inner brass core cover with a 200-mesh, monel and teflon-coated tape.
Screen is also enclosed also by an aluminum screen.
Considered permanent unless damaged.
Flow is outside to inside.
Filter inlet chamber?
Fuel flow starts at the inlet chamber.
Dome-shaped to make a flow to get to all of the coalescent elements.
Fuel passes through tube sheet into coalescent elements in the fallout chamber.
Fallout chamber?
Largest of the three chambers.
Allows the coalescent water to fall out of the fuel stream by gravity as it flows from coalescent elements to separator elements.
Both elements are installed in this chamber.
Also contains manhole cover, filter vent line, and water receiving sump.
Filter vent line?
Installed at the top of the fallout chamber.
Fitted with a bulls eye sight glass.
2 shutoff valves.
One-way check valve that directs fuel back into the contaminated settling tanks.
Filter is vented until a solid stream of fuel is observed in the sight glass.
What size solids can seperator elements filter?
Solids larger than 10 microns.
