FILM QUALITY/TUTORIAL LECTURES---TEN QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED--20 POINTS Flashcards
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
1–BLURRED IMAGE RELATES TO_______ ______
WHICH IS WHY IT IS DESIRABLE TO KEEP XRAY TIME LOW!!
2–A BLURRED VISION CAN ALSO BE RELATED TO _____ _________ BETWEEN THE FILM AND SCREENS
3–IF THE CASSETTE _______, THIS IS A CONSEQUENCE! ONLY HAPPENS WITH ANALOG FILM!!
PATIENT MOTION
POOR CONTACT
WARPS
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
______ ____________–REFERS TO THE DEGREE OF BLACKNESS OF THE FILM. ALSO RELATED TO NUMBER OF XRAYS STRIKING THE FILM.
–IT IS CONTROLLED BY _____ AND _____
—SO…TOO WHITE MEANS NOT ENOUGH XRAYS HIT THE SCREEN…DOUBLE THE mAs!!!
–TOO BLACK MEANS TOO MANY HIT THE SCREEN…… HALF THE mAs!!!!
**IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE KvP!!
FILM DENSITY
KVP AND mAs
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
FILM WITH LOW CONTRAST GIVES YOU WHAT??
FILM WITH HIGH CONTRAST GIVES YOU WHAT??
LOTS OF SHADES OF GRAY
GREAT BLACK AND WHITE WITH FEW SHADES OF GRAY
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
KvP AND CONTRAST ARE INVERSELY RELATED!!
1—INCREASE KvP AND CONTRAST GOES DOWN SO YOU GET???
2–DECREASE KvP AND CONTRAST GOES UP SO YOU GET?
MORE SHADES OF GRAY
FEWER SHADES OF GRAY
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
IT IS NEVER BENEFICIAL FOR ______ ________ TO STRIKE THE FILM
IT IS REDUCED BY
1—USE OF A __________
2–USING ___________
3–IF A LARGE PATIENT YOU PUT HER IN WHAT POSITION?
SCATTER RADIATION
GRID
COLLIMATION
SUPINE
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
DARKROOM ERRORS
1- FILMS EXPOSED TO _________
2—FILMS __________ TOGETHER
3–DIRTY _________
4—FOREIGN MATERIALS PLACED IN CASSETTES
5—STATIC ELECTRICITY __________
6–PROBLEMS WITH __________ CHEMICALS
7–HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE DO QUALITY CONTROL?
DAILY? WEEKLY? MONTHLY? YEARLY? FUCK IT!??
LIGHT
STICKING
ARTIFACTS
PROCESSOR
DAILY!

________ AND ________ ARE COMMON ARTIFACTS
2 MAIN DANGERS OF ARTIFACTS:
1—HIDE MAJOR ___________
2—MISTAKEN FOR MAJOR __________
CLOTHING AND HAIR
PATHOLOGY
PATHOLOGY
Film Quality “Lecture” POWERPOINT
MUST HAVE AREA WHERE NEW FILM AND USED FILM ARE IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS!
KNOW
Film Quality “tutorial” POWERPOINT
***Asses the films first BEFORE reading the text.
Things to assess when considering film quality
- Is all required anatomy on the film?
- Is patient/tube positioned correct?
-Is the film density, too light or too dark?
- Is the film contrast to high
(usually not an issue outside of chest or abdomen)
— or too low (often a result on film fogging from scatter)?
- Is the marker visible and not obscuring important
anatomy for that view?
– Are there darkroom errors?
– Is there evidence of patient motion?
– Are foreign bodies/artifacts present?

Density Issues
— It is recommended to utilize a FIXED ____ technique.
—- This means that set predetermined Kvps for each body region are utilized, and if there is
a problem with film density then the___ is changed to correct the problem.

- ***It is never beneficial for scatter radiation to strike the film.
- – More scatter radiation is produced by the more _____ that are exposed to x‐rays. Other things such as____ can also influence scatter radiation.
TISSUES
Kvp
Film Quality “tutorial” POWERPOINT
Scatter radiation is reduced through several methods.
- The first method is with the use of a grid.
- The second is by reducing the amount of tissue that is exposed to radiation
- – Accomplish this by using _________
- –Accomplish this by laying a large patient down to diminish the thickness of the part being x‐rayed.
collimation.
Film Quality “tutorial” POWERPOINT
EX—-OVER collimation, cant see all the basic anatomy about the knee (_______mistake)
AND…No visualized marker. (probably collimated out) (______ mistake)
= Film needs to be retaken.
EX–OVER exposure of all three
views ON ONE FILM (because they didn’t lead block rest of film each time a view was performed. = (____ mistake)
= All three views needs to be retaken on separate films
EX.–Metallic artifact in the left lung field. (lighter that
a smoker left in their front shirt pocket) Proper patient preparation before the radiographic exam is very important. (MAJOR mistake). No visualized marker
(MINOR mistake)
= Film needs to be retaken.
EX..Remember collimation for lateral cervical spine should be behind eyes and extend just to the top of the ear. (MINOR mistake)
— C7/T1 are NOT visible. (MAJOR mistake)
= View needs to be retaken due to the last point above
