- p 368. If you create a new TO of the LINE ITEMS TABLE, you’re:
giving that table NEW MEANING in the RELATIONAL STRUCTURE of your database
- You can access this new TO - Expenses__LINE ITEMS- from:
any TABLE OCCURRENCE in the system
- You can access the new Expenses__LINE ITEMS TABLE OCCURRENCE from any TO in the system, in particular, you can:
add Expenses__LINE ITEMS details to the EXPENSES LAYOUT.
- You CANNOT put fields from EXPENSES on the LINE ITEMS L A Y O U T because:
that [Line Items] LAYOUT is attached to the LINE ITEMS TABLE OCCURRENCE, NOT the Expenses__LINE ITEMS occurrence.
- If you instead decide to create a NEW TABLE OCCURRENCE of the EXPENSES TABLE, then you cannot view:
LINE ITEM info from the EXPENSES LAYOUT, BUT YOU CAN VIEW EXPENSE INFO from the LINE ITEM LAYOUT. In this case, you’ve given expenses a new meaning (Billed Expenses, perhaps).
- If you want, you can create new OCCURRENCES of BOTH TABLES. If you do, you’ll be able to:
see EXPENSE information from a LINE ITEM, AND LINE ITEM info from an EXPENSE, but UNLESS you plan to use data that way, you’re only creating more work for yourself.
