What is a metaphor
A phrase or sentence which compares two things by saying that something is something else
Example:her face was a picture
A metaphor is a figure of speech in which two objects are compared as if they were identical.
A metaphor is a comparison of two normally unconnected things
The poet/writer adds strength to the image by saying that the two halves of the comparison are the same
Example:a candelabra flared briefly at the end of a branch
What is personification
Personification is a figure of speech,which describes inanimate objects as though they were alive. The technique of presenting things which are not human as if they were human it is a form of a metaphor
Example:the weather smiled on us
Alliteration
This is the technique of using a sequence of words beginning with the same initial sound. Usually a consonant it can be used for emphasis or to express movement or sound vividly.the repetition of consonants or vowels in lines of poetry.it is used to highlight the feeling of sound and movement,to intensify meaning,to bind words together
Example: with long legs frantically flying,he fled from the scene;leaving the bewildered bystanders boggling and bemused
What is a simile
A simile is a comparison of two normally unconnected objects.
The words as or like are used in similes
The poet/writer uses like or as or like for the purpose of explanation decoration or to add color to the poem/writing.
Example:smoke hung over the forest like a dull grey blanket
