What is figurative language?
Figures of speech that aren’t literal.
What is imagery?
Language that appeals to all the senses.
What is alliteration?
A sentence repeating the starting consenant of a word. (EX: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.)
What are comparisons between two unlike things?
Metaphors.
What are similes?
Comparisons between unlike thing using “like” or “as”.
What are idioms?
A phrase that means something different to what was said.
What are word associated with sounds? (EX: boom, clash)
Onomatopoeia.
What is the act of giving human characteristics to non-human obejects?
Personification.
What is Irony?
The difference between what is said and what is meant.
What is the difference between what is said and what is written?
Verbal irony.
What occurs when the audience or reader knows something the characters don’t?
Dramatic irony.
What is situational irony?
The extreme difference between what happens and what was expected to happen.
