what is HPA (hypothalamic pituitary-adrenal) seq?

A

stressor activates hypothalamic pituitary axis
hypothalamus stimulates pituitary gland
pituitary gland secretes ACTH hormone
stimulate adrenal gland to produce corticosteroid hormone
adrenal cortex releasing cortisol
adequate and steady blood sugar levels help cope w prolonged stressor
body back to normal
