Fieldwork Flashcards
What type of sampling was used in physical fieldwork and why?
- systematic sampling
- to find an average change in height rather than it being random
Why did you pick the dunes at Knoll Beach?
They are well established
Step 1 of methodology for collecting physical fieldwork?
- Identify where you collected data: Knoll Beach, Studland Bay
Step 2 of methodology for collecting physical fieldwork?
- place measuring tape on the floor at the sand dunes
Step 3 of methodology for physical fieldwork
- record date by placing the ranging poles 5 metres apart from each other and recording it on a sheet
- systematic sampling
Step 4 of methodology of physical fieldwork
- Ranging poles and a clinometer were used to measure the elevation of sand dunes making sure the poles were even and upright
Step 5 of methodology of physical fieldwork
To ensure the data was collected accurately the equipment was placed correctly- the poles were each 5m apart and at the same height
Step 6 of methodology of physical fieldwork
- The second piece of data we collected was the vegetation of every 5m
Step 7 of methodology of physical fieldwork
- when we got to 160 m we placed the quadrat and counted how many plants came out of the squares- the quadrat was then placed every 5m after that
- systematic sampling
Step 8 of methodology of physical fieldwork
- To determine the vegetation species, we use the vegetation identification sheet to check which ones we saw
Step 9 of methodology of physical fieldwork
- measured soil, pH by collecting sold 50 m
- soil was put inside the pots with distilled water and pH was measured using pH strips
How might dunes have been affected?
- dog walkers
- development on land
- wind eroding the sand dunes
- horse riders
- tourists using beach
- students measuring sand dunes
